Settings Every Object Shares
Position, ambient look, show when, dynamic tint, Color Styles, drop shadows and text outlines: the rows most objects have.
About 4 minutes
Each object's own Learn page explains the settings that are special to it. The rows on this page appear on most watch face objects, so they're explained once here.
Transform
At the top of the Inspector for every object.
| Row | What it does |
|---|---|
| Position | Where the object sits, in pixels on the watch's screen. You can also drag the object in the Scene. |
| Size | The object's box, width and height. Drag the handles in the Scene to resize. Text, gauges and complications all draw inside this box. |
| Rotation | Turns the object, in degrees. |
| Pivot | The point it rotates and scales around, from 0 to 1 across the box. 0.5, 0.5 is the centre. |
Ambient
Every object has an Ambient dot in the Hierarchy: filled shows it in ambient mode, a hollow ring hides it. New objects start hidden, except clocks. See Ambient Mode.
Objects that draw a colour also have an ambient look section:
| Row | What it does |
|---|---|
| colour | The colour used in ambient mode instead of the normal one. Often a plain grey or white. |
| tint overlay | A tint laid over the object in ambient only, for pictures and hands. |
| reset to match Active | Clears the ambient changes so it looks the same as normal. |
Show when
Shows the object only while a real watch value meets a condition, and hides it otherwise.
| Row | What it does |
|---|---|
| show when | Which value to watch: battery level or temperature, weather, heart rate, steps or step goal, wrist tilt, moon phase, unread notifications, language, or AM/PM. (none) means always shown. |
| condition | The comparison and the number to compare against, for example battery below 20. For language, the exact locale such as en_US. |
The Scene and Preview follow the values you set in the Simulate tab, so you can test it without a watch.
Dynamic tint
For objects with a tint (pictures, hands), the colour can change with a watch value too.
| Row | What it does |
|---|---|
| dynamic tint | Which value drives the colour. (none) keeps the tint fixed. |
| style | Switch: one colour until the value crosses a threshold, then another (a battery icon that turns red when low). Ramp: the colour slides through your colours as the value moves across a range (green to red as heart rate climbs). |
| condition / threshold | For Switch: when to change colour. |
| from / to | For Ramp: the values where the first and last colours show. |
| tint when true | For Switch: the second colour. |
Color Style
Under a colour field, to let the wearer pick colours on the watch. See Color Styles and Flavors.
| Row | What it does |
|---|---|
| style | Binds this colour to a Color Style instead of a fixed colour. |
| colour # | Which colour in the style's option to use, counting from 0. Handy when one style holds several colours (hour, minute and second hand). |
Drop shadow
On pictures, hands and similar objects. Every shadow follows the face's light, set in the Background tab under Shadows.
| Row | What it does |
|---|---|
| drop shadow | Draws a soft shadow under the object. It costs a second draw on the watch, so it's off by default except on a clock's hands. |
| own light | Ignore the face-wide light and use this object's own settings, for example to push the hour hand's shadow further than the minute hand's so they look stacked. |
| angle | Which way the shadow falls, in degrees clockwise from 12 o'clock. 135 is down and to the right. |
| distance | How far the shadow sits from the object, in pixels. Further looks higher above the dial. |
| softness | Blur, in pixels. 0 is a hard edge; anything above 0 is baked into a blurred picture when you build. |
| colour | The shadow's colour and strength. |
Text settings
Objects that draw text (Text, clocks, dates, readouts) share these:
| Row | What it does |
|---|---|
| font | The typeface. Empty uses the watch's default font. |
| font size | The size to draw at. 0 means automatic: half the box's height. |
| h. align / v. align | Where the text sits inside the box, left to right and top to bottom. |
| outline | A real outline around every letter (Wear OS 4 and newer). |
| outline colour / outline width | The outline's colour, and how far it reaches outside each letter, in pixels. |
